Brand Kenya Board Consultancy for the Development of a Brand Master Plan for Kenya

INTRODUCTION

This Request for Expression of Interest follows the establishment of Brand Kenya Board (8KB), a state corporation established in March 2008 in accordance with the State Corporations Act (Cap 446) to put in place an integrated coordinating mechanism for building and enhancing the country's image and national identity and rallying Kenyans behind it.

In order to remain a competitive and attractive destination for investors, tourists, visitors and Kenyans in general, 8KB intends to engage the services of a consultant to develop a Brand Master Plan that will comprehensively package and communicate Kenya's key attractions and strengths. This consultancy is expected to take a period of 3 months.

1. OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The principal objective of the consultancy is to develop a plan on how to coordinate initiatives for marketing the country in order to maximize their efficiency, and create a clear Kenyan brand identity.

The brand strategy should inculcate in all Kenyans a set of core values that define the national character and foster harmony and social cohesion. It should also improve Kenya's attractiveness and competitiveness globally and position it as a destination of choice for investors, tourists, corporate headquarters, visitors etc.

2. SCOPE OF WORK

The consultant shall undertake the following specific tasks:
  • Develop a brand identity for Kenya which positions it optimally in terms of investment, creditworthiness, tourism and international relations.
  • Develop an internal country communication strategy for uniting Kenyans and provide them with information about the country in order to promote patriotism, national pride and self-confidence.
  • Develop an external communication strategy to communicate the Kenya brand to international stakeholders i.e. investors, tourists, corporations, individuals etc.
  • Develop a brand strategy for improving the image of our cities and towns.
  • Develop a product identity to promote Kenyan products and services to encourage economic transformation.
  • Develop and write the Kenya Country Brand Master Plan document.
3. EXPERTISE REQUIRED

The consulting firm must be a reputable firm with proven relevant experience in developing brand master plans for products and/or countries or brand related assignments, and a team with relevant competencies to handle the assignment as follows:
  • Marketing/Branding experts, with the lead consultant having a relevant postgraduate academic qualification and at least 5 years in marketing/brand consultancy services, and with proven experience in developing Brand Master Plans or similar assignments.
4. The Brand Kenya Board now invites eligible Marketing/Brand consulting firms to express their interest in developing the Kenya Brand Master Plan. Interested firms shall provide information indicating their professional capability to undertake the consultancy.

Such information shall include corporate profiles, description of similar assignments (destination, town, product), experience handling similar assignments, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.

Consultant firms should provide the most recent profiles of their consultants showing their experience, qualifications, capability, references and details of past experience especially in the area of developing brand master plans. Consultants may associate to enhance their qualifications.

5. Following the Expression of Interest (EOI), Brand Kenya Board will issue requests for proposal to shortlisted firms.

6. Interested consultants must provide all information as follows:

a) Certificate of firm registration
b) Pin, VAT & tax compliance certificates
c) Audited financial statements for the last three (3) years

7. Complete Expression of interest documents in plain sealed envelopes with consultancy reference and name clearly marked on top should be sent to the address below or forwarded using the email address below or placed in the tender box at our offices on the 28th floor, Telposta Towers.
