Islamic Relief Kenya (IRK) Borehole Drilling Request for Expression of Interest

Islamic Relief Kenya (IRK) is an international Non – Governmental Humanitarian Organization whose mission is to contribute to alleviating poverty and putting end to the suffering of the world’s poorest population regardless of race, religion or gender.

In partnership with UNICEF, IRK is drilling bore holes in Mandera and Wajir in North Eastern Province, Kenya. Interested reputable Companies/firms are therefore invited to bid for the construction of the same as follows:
  1. Three (3) deep boreholes (250M) in Wajir
  2. Two (2) deep boreholes (250M) in Mandera.
  3. Two (2) deep bore holes (80M) in Wajir.
Terms of Reference
  1. Drilling exercise to start after the Geo-physical and Hydro-geological survey have been conducted,
  2. Report generated and drilling permit awarded by Water Resource Management Authority (WARMA)
  3. Compliance for drilling requirements [Drilling permit, certificate and Drawing permit] to be followed up by the drilling contractor from WRMA
  4. IRK shall make site visits to make work supervisions and ensure that procedures are adhered to
  5. Continuous drilling until finishing the depth of the well
  6. Development of Borehole to obtain clean water
  7. Legal Test pumping to be done for 48hrs [preferably with a 5.5kw s. Pump]
  8. IRK shall not be responsible for damages, accidents and loss of any nature. Drilling Company is strongly advised to observe obligatory procedures
  9. Drilling beyond the required depth without striking water, having insufficient yield and/or striking undrinkable water, IRK will not make any payments and therefore costs incurred shall be a liability of the drilling contractor
  10. Installation Draw pipes, Sub-mercible pump and tail cable shall be provided by Islamic Relief-Kenya
  11. Drilling contractor expected to adopt and apply changes in design, supply, mode of work and any other aspects during the drilling exercise.
  12. Borehole completion report to be presented to IRK and WRMA
  13. IRK shall make payments after the drilling has been done to required depths, satisfactory yield and water fit for human consumption has been realized.
  14. Other mandatory requirements:
  • Company profile; adequate human resource capacity
  • Confirmation of guarantee line given by satisfied customers
  • Evidence that the bidder has experience in drilling boreholes
  • Evidence of Registration/incorporation
  • Valid Tax Compliance Certificate

Islamic Relief Kenya programme, in partnership with UNICEF hereby calls for expression of interest from firms/companies for the supply of materials for WASH facilities in our field office, Mandera, North Eastern Kenya needed for the construction of 6 shallow wells, two water tanks, 2 pump houses, Pipeline for two sites.

WaterPartners(Water.Org) Tender Notice

WaterPartners (Water.Org) invites sealed bids for drilling and construction of 4 boreholes in 4 primary schools in Nyando and Kisumu East Districts.

Tender documents can be obtained by interested candidates upon payment of a non-refundable fee of Ksh. 3,000/= to WaterPartners (Water.Org), upon which a cash receipt must be obtained.

Complete tender applications to be dropped of at the tender box located at WaterPartners' (Water.Org) reception on or before 26th August 2009 at 10am. Tenders to be opened the same day at 2pm.

Copies of the following must accompany the application

1. Registration with Ministry of Water and Irrigation as a borehole drilling contractor (proof of registration will be required)

2. Successful completion of at least three similar contracts in the last three years;

3. Copy of receipt obtained upon purchase of tender documents.

Pre-Qualification of Drilling Contractors: Dadaab Refugee Camps

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Branch Office for Kenya (UNHCR) is in the process of expanding the water infrastructure in Dadaab refugee camps situated in the North Eastern Province of Kenya.

The organization plans to drill a number of boreholes; initially, the drilling works for one borehole are due to commence immediately at the UNHCR staff compound in Dadaab and interested firms should be in a position to mobilize within a period of one month.

Competent drilling firms are invited to submit applications for pre-qualification.

The applicants must be qualified contractors grade F and above with valid drilling license from the Ministry of Water and Irrigation.

The submission should include:

a) Company profile including copies of original documents defining the constitution or legal status of the firm, place of registration and principal place of business.

b) Previous experience with similar projects of more than ten boreholes carried out in the last five years including the project values.

c) Details of work in hand and contractual commitments and names and address of the clients who may be contacted for further information on those contracts.

d) Specific drilling experience in the Merti Aquifer

e) List of major/relevant plant and borehole drilling equipment proposed for the works, registration numbers, and year of manufacture.

f) Present capability including the period within which to mobilize if awarded the tender

g) Qualification and experience of key technical personnel proposed for the contract.

h) Financial position including total annual turnover expressed as total volume of borehole drilling work performed in each of the last five years. This is to be supported by audit reports as well as bank statements.

i) Evidence of adequacy of working capital for the contract if awarded i.e. evidence of access to line(s) of credit and availability of other financial resources.

j) Reports of the financial standing, such as profit and loss statements and auditors reports for the last three years.

k) Banker's references and any other information in support of the firm.

Applications in plain sealed envelopes clearly marked 'Prequalification for the Dadaab Boreholes Drilling Tender' should be deposited in the tender box at UNHCR Branch Office, Nairobi, at 35 Rapta Road, Westlands.

On the basis of submissions received, the organization will prepare a shortlist of drilling firms that will be invited for tendering.

The closing date for the application is 19th August 2009 at 10 am.
